The "Association of Greek Users and Friends of Free Software/Open Source Software (FS/OSS)" with the discreet title GreekLUG, as part of social contribution, proceeded to the rebuild of the computer lab of the Greek Children's Village in Filiro Thessaloniki, creating the infrastructure, installation and systems networking.

Our Association at first, proceeded in clearing the site, installing structured cabling and testing of the electrical efficiency. In a second phase, 8 decommissioned PC's were cleaned and tested and supplemented with all necessary accessories (like power supply), in order to function.
Afterwards, there was installation of GNU/Linux and FOSS software at the computers. Also our Association donated a Computer in order to be used as a Server, a computer Screen, related peripherals (keyboard, mouse), and a Switch, which where past donations to our Association.

For the Server, a special installation was implemented, with DHCP Server, Squid Proxy Server and configuration of the protective filter DansGuardian.
Also, we incorporated the Greek translation of DansGuardian lists, a project of our Association, which we develop for the wider Greek public, and can be downloaded from [here].

As part of the activity, we also connected the computers over LAN and to the Internet through the filter of the Proxy Server, so that children can browse the web under a protected interface.

The Children's Village in Filiro thanked us for our contribution and there is already a decision to expand our cooperation across the hole structure of the Village Institution.
